Language in the Quaich states, “survive and thrive” and this year’s winner consistently works to grow the class by mentoring new sailors and provides help to any and all that need. He actively promotes and races in major events around the country and creates activities like Bucctoberfest and Freeze Your Bucc off, to get pirates of all ages on the water. He has loaned boats to visiting sailors, even some from Alaska, to get more boats on the starting line, has posted instructional videos and willing shares his vast knowledge.
He has ensured a potential future for new Buccaneers by driving to Michigan and rescuing the molds and creating pathways to potentially build new boats.
Jimmy Yurko, you are a Buccaneer legend, leader, great sailor and respected by the entire class, someone who shares your time and talent to ensure the class will continue to “survive and thrive” in the Buccaneer tradition set forth by MacAlpine-Downie and Gibs.
