Buccaneer 18 Class Association Launches Builder Search Initiative

The Buccaneer 18 Class Association is proud to announce the formal launch of its Builder Search Committee, a dedicated initiative established to identify and evaluate potential manufacturing partners for the production of new Buccaneer 18 sailboats. This move is driven by the growing demand from sailors and fleets eager to join our vibrant one‑design community.

Building on a Strong Legacy.
The Association is dedicated to identifying potential manufacturers to fulfill the strong interest from sailors wishing to join our class. This initiative is supported by the Buccaneer 18’s 60-year track record, which includes over 5,000 boats built and a robust community of more than 7 active fleets across North America

Currently,
multiple sailors and regional fleets have expressed documented readiness to purchase new boats, signaling a strong and immediate market for an experienced builder. This established interest offers a new manufacturing partner the potential for quick production momentum from day one.

Committee Objectives

The National Committee has tasked the Builder Search Committee with several key priorities to ensure the continued growth and success of the class:

Identifying and evaluating qualified builders with the appropriate facilities and expertise in marine manufacturing.

Compiling data from confirmed and prospective buyers to provide manufacturers with a clear view of the existing market potential.

Coordinating with technical advisors to ensure all new production adheres to the established class rules and high standards of the Buccaneer 18 design.

Building the Future Together

For over five decades, the Buccaneer 18 has been celebrated as a fast, stable, and community‑minded dinghy, perfect for both competitive racers and family day-sailing. The launch of this committee reflects the Association’s dedication to preserving that legacy while creating new opportunities for sailors to join the Buccaneer family in freshly built boats.

We encourage members, supporters, and interested builders to share their expertise and market insights as we enter this
next chapter of growth and success.
