PHOENIX, AZ — Tony Chapman has claimed victory at this year’s Dinghy Days regatta, hosted by the Arizona Yacht Club, earning him the esteemed Rod Macalpine-Downie & Dick Gibbs Trophy. This accolade, awarded by the Buccaneer 18 Class Association, recognizes excellence in one-design Buccaneer 18 racing.

The Rod Macalpine-Downie & Dick Gibbs Trophy, introduced in 2005, commemorates the Buccaneer 18’s designers. Each year, the association designates a select regatta, and the winners’ names are engraved on a perpetual plaque, honoring their achievement. The trophy not only celebrates competitive spirit but also fosters growth and visibility for the class across the U.S.

Chapman’s name will be added to the esteemed plaque, joining a legacy of champions dedicated to Buccaneer 18 racing excellence.
