Arizona Yacht Club’s Dinghy Days Regatta Chosen to Host Prestigious 2024 Macalpine-The Buccaneer Class National has announced that the Arizona Yacht Club’s Dinghy Days Regatta, scheduled for November 2-3, 2024, at Lake Pleasant, AZ, has been selected as the host of the esteemed 2024 Macalpine-Downie/Gibbs Cup Regatta.

Situated amidst the breathtaking vistas of Lake Pleasant Regional Park, the Dinghy Days Regatta promises to provide an unparalleled setting for this prestigious event. Boasting a myriad of recreational activities such as camping, boating, fishing, hiking, and wildlife viewing, Lake Pleasant Regional Park offers an ideal backdrop for both competitors and spectators alike.

The Macalpine-Downie/Gibbs Cup Regatta, initiated in 2005 by Scott Laundry to honor the designers of the Buccaneer 18 boat, represents a pinnacle of achievement within the Buccaneer sailing community. Named after Rod Macalpine-Downie and Dick Gibbs, the regatta commemorates their contributions to the Buccaneer 18 Class and recognizes excellence in sailing.

Under the stewardship of the Arizona Yacht Club, the winners of the 2024 Macalpine-Downie/Gibbs Cup Regatta will have their names inscribed on a perpetual plaque, an enduring testament to their skill and prowess on the water. Furthermore, the victors will be entrusted with the prestigious plaque until the next competition, symbolizing their esteemed status within the Buccaneer sailing fraternity.
