Portsmouth Racing Buccaneer Style

The Buccaneers showed up in force at the Connecticut River Race in Essex CT a few weeks ago.

We had 8 buccs on the line, including one “portsmouth” bucc who decided to experiment with some rigging mods to try to capitalize on the potential for reaches… (which did not work so well for them)

The CT river dinghy distance race was a spectacular event with a wide variety of wind conditions & opportunities to sail in direct competition with about 40 other boats.

Gus Rappold on “Lunatic” was the highest finishing Bucc… You can check out the scores here:

NC State “SailPack”

Leading the charge were some of our classes newest recruits.

Led by Paulina Spencer and Dustin Simons the NC State sailing

club put two of the eight Buccaneers on the water this weekend.

Additional sailors this weekend included Bret Aurer who has always served as a bit of an ambassador for our class in Belhaven.  Mike Sigmund brought out his yellow Chrysler “Miss App”.  Justin Meddock as always was there with crew Johnny.  Justin as always was there ready to lend a hand, and spent Sunday morning helping a potential new Buccaneer Sailor get familiarized with the boat and fleet.

The regatta was won by Jeff Moore on “Spanish Mackerel”, second place was Bart Streb on “Adrenaline” followed closely by Michelle Major on “Fireball”.

We will be posting more details, stories & photos as they come available.

Greetings from NC State!

Wasabi made a great debut at the Carolina Sailing Club Championship series, scoring a 3 and two (count em) two bullets for an overall win! Breeze was light and variable, and skipper Nikki Palen (Vice Commodore of NC State Sailing Club) took the green bucc to her first win as part of the College Lending Program. Congrats Nikki!

Pirates on the Pungo!

The Pirates on the Pungo regatta is one not to miss….

Belhaven Buccaneer Festival, May 15-17, Belhaven, NC

Bayview One Design Regatta

Bayview Yacht Club…  Hosting Buccaneers Memorial Day weekend…  If you’re near Detroit..you need to be at this regatta!

The 2015 BOD: May 28-31

It’s something old and something new at the 4th annual Bayview Yacht Club One Design Regatta: US Sailing’s 2012 Regatta of the Year Award. With four race circles and an average of 180 boats we are looking to get to the 200 marker for the second time. When you come to Bayview it is about racing sailboats and as we say around here “It’s what we are, it’s what we do”, so come and experience Bayview in our centennial year.

The Old:

As always, you’re invited to Bayview to experience the same great parties, top-notch race committee work and unparalleled camaraderie that you have come to expect at our annual regatta. We have recruited the Midwest’s top PROs and an international jury to provide the best racing experience possible.  Saturday night’s dockside festivities will feature the band Good Gravy, a crowd favorite, to perform until the wee hours of the morning.

The New:

We have interest in the regatta from additional classes and are hoping to add a few one-design fleets to join in the fun.  For the sailors who don’t own a one-design boat or do not have the time to race all three days, we are introducing a one-day Cruising Class division to allow more sailors to participate in one of the premier regattas on Lake St. Clair.  We are in the process of creating new trophies with a little Detroit flair. If you win one, we don’t think you’ll stick this year’s awards on the back of a shelf.

For the Buccaneer class we are offering 2 days of racing, free launch and haul out, free berthing for the weekend, daily and overall awards and entertainment Friday and Saturdaynight for the cost of 80 dollars.

Easter Buccy Blown off the water…but not out…

With wind gusts in the 40+ knot range, and water temperatures not a whole lot above freezing we opted to refrain from sailing at this year’s Easter Buccy regatta.

That was far from the end however.  We moved the party from the marina to Casa de Neurauter (Jeff’s House) and had a great BBQ.

Of course there was the issue of what to do with the wonderful trophies that were skillfully crafted by our host (Jeff)…

And the Land-Sailing games began.

We had relays, knot tying, egg scavenging..pirate Arg’s and Rum!

Of course as with any spirited contest there were casualties….but the E.R. and paramedic folks sure seemed to enjoy writing “Three Legged Race” on the “cause of injury/description of incident” blank…

In the end, it was another great event at PRSA.  With an ever growing fleet of Buccs (9 ready to go this day), we’re in for a heck of a season!

BNAC Student Rush is ON!!!!

The NC State sailing team is gearing up for the Bucc Racing season.

The club racing program at NC state is a great program that introduces students to sailing opportunities in a variety of formats.  The program has everything from beginner sailors to inter-collegiate racers.

Now they have Buccaneers!

Student Rush Crossing Tacks

Due to a partnership between members of the sailing program at NC State, and regional fleets in both North Carolina and Maryland the team now has two active sailing Buccaneers.   They participate in weekend club series at Jordan Lake near Raleigh, NC.  They also use the boats to introduce new sailors to the sport and the class.

Judging by the faces on these students…they’re enjoying the ride!

Easter Buccy Regatta 2 days away!

The first Buccaneer regatta on the Potomac river this season is this Saturday.  One day before Easter, this unconventional regatta, featuring an on-the-water Easter egg hunt will be here.

This year we’re anticipating some new faces at this years event as the PRSA Buccaneer fleet is has spawned some new activity…

Here’s a pic of Katherine “Kat” Martin’s recent purchase of her first Bucc which she proudly posted to Facebook….

We anticipate seeing Kat, along with her new Bucc out on the water this weekend.  In addition to Kat, PRSA has added Nic Brogen to the fleet who purchased a nice used Nickels Buccaneer in December.

No matter what all crews (new and old) are sure to have a great time at this regatta.

Stay tuned for post race follow up.
